I just got back from Oak Ridge Tennessee where we rode Windrock. I have a new favorite place to ride now. It was a 6 hour drive from Raleigh and worth every minute of it. We stayed at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Oak Ridge which is only 10 minutes from the trailhead. The back parking lot was full of vehicles hauling quads. Some from as far away as Michigan and Illinois. We met a group who drove 9 hours to ride there. Unfortunatly, we did not get to ride as much as we hoped. My buddy was having problems with his 400ex. It also started raining hard on us, so we called it an early day. But I saw enough that I cant wait to go back to this place. If you havent riden there, I highly reccomend it. The trails are great for Utility riders, yet fast enough to keep the sport riders entertained. You will defiantly need to bring extra cloths. This is one of the wettest areas of the country averaging 55 inches of rain per year. So Im sure you can imagine the mud. I had Realtors on the back of my DS650. They were worth their weight in gold this weekend. www.windrockatv.com

Hey Roger, I done told you if you want to run wid the big boys you gotta get off the porch, Get rid of that peddle quad ds650 and ride a real man's quad. The Yamagouchi 875 is up for sale and has your name written all over it!! 8) 8) 8) 8) I just installed a new set of teflon coated ring bearings, just for you. Only problem I see is the Yamagouchi don't have them secret compartments for carrying all your trail biscuits!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D. Mudslide said that!!

Hey BigR.... What roads did you take to get to Windrock? I have heard the better route to go is up to I-81 and across, that !-40 is rough around Asheville. Which way did you go? I'm going form Durham, so would 5 1/2 hours seem right? I'm not going this weekend to the big rendevous, but I would like to plan a trip over that way this summer!

We took I-40 all the way to the Oak Ridge, TN exit.
Asheville was not the problem however. Getting through Greensboro was the only hold up. Coming from Raleigh it took us about 6 hours and 15 minutes (not including stops) to get up there. Coming back took us about 5 hours 40 minutes. We didnt hit as much traffic comng back through Greensboro as we did going. It made a big difference. I havent heard of the way you were refering to, but I think I will look into it.
