PATVA Invades Pinnacle Creek, West Virginia
Trail report by Jimmy Megginson
On Janurary 12th-14th PATVA visited The Cherry-Key Inn in Landgraff, WV. This was our second time staying here and as usaul the hospitality was the best. This is the best place you can stay for the buck. Our adventure begins on Friday after a little grocery shopping we hit the trail. We take a little trip past the Big Blue Building and down the haulroads to a unmapped trail west of Tom Greene Gap. It was a short ride of about 35 miles. We returned for some of Pauls excellent cooking and a few adult beverages afterward.
Saturday proved to be some of the best ATV riding I have ever experienced. There was a abundance of snow left over from the previous two weeks of bad weather. Most creeks where still frozen over. Rumburg and Matt Henderson are natives of the Mountain State and know the trails well. We were glad to see them show up in the parking lot at the Inn on Saturday morning. Up the trail and across Burke Mountain we headed to what some locals call the Low Road. There you will cross Pinnacle Creek at least a dozen times. Almost all crossings were frozen over so deep water was never a issue. Unfortunatly I broke a right front spring after about 25 miles. I continued on and limped around on it the rest of the day. We did manage to climb a few hills and ride some of the most beautiful snow covered mountains in the eastern US. We even found a few holes for the mud boggers of the bunch. Bill Shaw drowned his brand new Arctic Cat 250 4wd. After a long drying out period we headed for The Outpost for a final break before the long ride back. In all we had a blast and took some of the best pictures ever. The next trip is coming soon. I can't wait!!
PATVA Members attending.
Bradley Carver, Bill Shaw, Jimmy Megginson, Eric Jackola,
Mark Jackola, David Ostrout, and Paul (CHEF) Murray.
No injuries reported!!!
