i was told by one of our members that you now have to have a pass to Hatfield McCoy trails just to ride in the campground parking lot.............I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH THEM AND THEY SAID PEOPLE MISUNDERSTAND BECAUSE THERE IS SIGNS FOR HATFIELD THAT SAY DON'T ENTER.....THESE TRAILS ARE THE ONES AT THE TOP OF THE HILL IN THE CAMPGROUND AND THE INDIAN RIVER TRAIL HEAD IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL ACROSS FROM ASHLAND STORE.....THEY SAID YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A PASS TO STAY AT THE CAMPGROUND, SO AS OF NOW YOU CAN STILL STAY AT KOA IN ASHLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kenny is correct. You do not have to have a H/M pass to stay or ride from the Ashland KOA as long as you don't hit the trails above or across the street. KOA is surrounded by H/M, however if you stay at the KOA without a pass, you can ride the road to get to the non H/M trails. A word of caution!! Don't get caught on the H/M trails without a pass or violating any of their rules as posted on the H/M web site. The H/M rangers are super helpful, polite and want you to enjoy their trails, however, they don't mess around. Not that any folks here would drink and ride a ATV, but that is the least tolerant violation for them. They would think nothing of impounding the quad and writing a citation for DWI (The same as if you were driving an automobile on a public road).
The best thing to do is get the annual H/M pass, then you are covered no mater where you ride. Enjoy. Willy
